Early Life and Childhood
Matthew grew up with his three other siblings and developed a deep interest in acting at an early age. Aiden had made appearances in several stage productions.
He joined the acting school at Columbia College Chicago, majorly focusing on stage combat. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Art.

Independent Circuit (2011-2012)
Rehwoldt started his wrestling training right after graduating from college. He debuted on the Illinois independent circuit under the ring name ‘Matt Marquee’ in late-2011.
He formed a tag team with Barry Ryte with the title “The Ryte Stuff” and wrestled with promoting Chicago Style Wrestling.
Developmental Territories (2012-2014)
In early 2012, Rehwoldt signed a contract with WWE and was assigned to its developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), where he started performing with the ring name “Aiden English.”
He made his first televised appearance on April 8, 2012 episode of FCW television, with his partner Audrey Marie in an intergender tag team match against Rick Victor and Paige.
He had his television debut on the June 27 episode of the rebooted NXT taped at Full Sail University, after WWE rebranded. Also, he lost the match against Leo Kruger during the same event.
He primarily performed as a jobber throughout the year, losing to wrestlers like Bray Wyatt, Ryback, and Big E Langston. His sad days were over after defeating Michael Q. Laurie on September 18, 2013.
Throughout the year, English made several wins defeating Jason Jordan and Camacho, singing a parody version of the “Major-General’s Song” from the musical The Pirates of Penzance. English began a feud with Colin Cassady at the beginning of 2014, when he lost a match against Colin on the January 1 episode of NXT.
The Vaudevillains (2014-2016)
In June 2014, English teamed up with Simon Gotch to form a tag team, “The Vaudevillains.” The Vaudevillains defeated Blake and Murphy and won the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Dash and Dawson ended their title reign at just 61 days. The Vaudevillains lost the match against Dash and Dawson in a rematch for the title on November 25th episode of NXT.
They missed numerous events with Blake and Murphy, The Hype Bros, and American Alpha in a number one contenders match for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Main Roster (2016- present)
Aiden made their main roster debut as heels, on April 7, 2016, defeating the Lucha Dragons. They defeated Goldust and Fandango on the April 11 episode of Raw.
And were announced as one of the teams to participate in the #1 contenders tournament. Later that week, they went to semi-finals defeating The Usos on the 18th April episode of Raw, SmackDown. During the Payback, the Vaudevillains faced the Finals with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.
Due to severe concussion by Amore, the Vaudevillains were declared number one contenders as the match resulted in a no contest.
Aiden English and Simon Gotch got their shot at winning the titles against The New Day in a Losing effort at Extreme Rules. For the claims in a losing effort, The Vaudevillains competed against Enzo Amore, Big Cass, Gallows, and Anderson in a Fatal 4-way tag-team match.
The Vaudevillains were drafted in the tenth round of picks to SmackDown on July 19, 2016.
In August, SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan and SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon set up a new tag-team tournament ‘WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship’ where the winners would be crowned with the inaugural championships.
On August 30th, episode of SmackDown, The Vaudevillains competed against the Hype Bros and got defeated. Similarly, they also lost the match with Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) on the November 8 episode of SmackDown. This was a qualifying match for the spot in Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.
