Early Life of Big E

Ettore Ewen (Big E) was born in Tampa, Florida, United States, on March 1, 1986. He was the son of Jamaican and Montserratian immigrants Eltore and Margaret Ewen.

Ewen graduated his high school in Tampa. He was interested in wrestling from an early age. Ewen won several athletic honors that include a state championship and was renowned as Hillsborough County’s “Ironman of the Year.”

Big E continued his study attending the University of Iowa, where he began to play American football. Ewen graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Arts. 

Big E began his journey of bodybuilding and professional wrestling, attending the powerlifting.

As a first career, this big man got involved in powerlifting as soon as his study is completed. Ewen competed in USA Powerlifting on July 11.

He was selected for the 2010 United States Open Championships at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. Big E was the strongest among all the competitors.

Ewen was able to break all the four Florida states’ raw powerlifting records and became a top heavyweight lifter in the 275-pound class.

His best records in powerlifting include a 611-pound squat, a 490-pound bench press, and a 749-pound deadlift for a 1,850 pound raw altogether.

He then competes on the super heavyweight division of 275+ pounds, where he was able to break all the raw American and national records in the deadlift with 799 pounds and a total of 2,039 pounds.

Developmental Territories (2009 – 2013)

Ewen was signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2009. He was assigned to begin his initial phase of WWE career at Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

Ewen had his first debut match on December 17, 2009, with a ring name of Big E Langston. Langston wins his first-ever title match on May 12, 2011, with Calvin Raines defeating Richie Steamboat and Seth Rollins.

The tag team partner won FCW Florida Tag Team Championship but lost quickly to CJ Parker and Donny Marlow on July 21, 2011.

Big E Langston defeated Antonio Cesaro during the match in Wrestlemania XXVIII Axxess event in April 2012.

This big man made his debut on NXT on August 1, 2012, where he defeated Adam Mercer in his debut match. This match began the continuous winning streak of Big E Langston.

Langston defeated The Shield member Seth Rollins in a No Disqualification match on January 9, 2013, to win an NXT Championship title.

Intercontinental Championship (2013 – 2014)

Big E Langston continued to feud against The Shield and challenged Dean Ambrose for WWE United States Championship, which he won by count-out.

In a re-match, he again won by disqualification after the interference of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Big E then had a championship match against Axel on November 18, where he defeated Axel to win the title.

He successfully defended his title from Axel, Damien Sandow at TLC match, Jack Swagger at Elimination Chamber match. Big E lost his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz on a battle royal.

The New Day (2014 – Present)

After a continuous loss with his tag team Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods came to join their team, creating a new squad naming as “The New Day.”

After the involvement of Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E won their tag team match against Heath Slater and Titus O’Neil.

The New Day made their debut on ring against Titus O’Neil, Heath Slater and Curtis Axel on the November 28, on the episode of SmackDown.

Big E and Kofi Kingston won the WWE Tag Team Championship for the first time at Extreme Rules against Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. They defeated them again in re-match at Payback in a two-out-of-three falls match.

They were again successful in defending their title on the Elimination Chamber match by eliminating The Prime Time Players. The New Day lost its title on Money in the Bank match against The Prime Time Player.

After they lose, The New Day won the title for the second time in a fatal four-way tag team match defeating The Prime Time Players, Los Matadores, and The Lucha Dragons.
