Chris Benoit, the son of Michael and Margaret Benoit, was born on May 21, 1967, in Montreal, Quebec.

He spent his early age growing up in Edmonton, Alberta, with his sister. Benoit was a big fan of Tom Billington and Bret Hart, which is the reason to become a professional wrestler.

Both Tom Billington trained him and Bret Hart and Beniot adopted Hart’s submission move “Sharpshooter” as his main finishing move.

The Career of Chris Benoit

Stampede Wrestling (1985 – 1989)

Chris Benoit’s professional career began at Stampede Wrestling in 1985. Benoit had his debut match as a tag team match with his teammate “The Remarkable” Rick Patterson and team against Butch Moffat and Mike Hammer.

They won the match where Benoit successfully pinned Moffat with a move “Sunset Flip.” His first every title as Stampede British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Championship.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (1986 – 1994)

After a few years of training in “New Japan Dojo,” he made his debut in 1986. He began to wear a face mask and named himself “The Pegasus Kid.”

He won his first championship title at New Japan Pro-Wrestling in August 1990. The title was IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, which he won from Justing Thunder Liger.

Benoit then successfully won the Best of the Super Juniors twice in 1993 and 1995. Defeating great wrestlers like Black Tiger, Gedo, and The Great Sasuke, he was also able to win inaugural Super J-Cup Tournament in 1994.

Extreme Championship Wrestling (1994 – 1995)

In Extreme Championship Wrestling, he was booked as a dominant wrestler. He participated in a one-night eight-man tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship title but lost to 2 Cold Scorpio.

Benoit accidentally broke Sabu’s neck in a match while Benoit was trying to bump his face. Sabu landed on his neck and came to a neck injury.

Chris Benoit and his teammate Dean Malenko won the ECW World Tag Team Championship title in February 1995 in against Sabu and The Tazmaniac.

Chris Benoit debuted in WWF as a part of Radicalz. They aligned with WWF Champion Triple H and became a heel faction.

He won his first WWF title only after a month of debut at the WrestleMania match against Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle. The title he won in his first WrestleMania 2000 as Intercontinental Championship.

Benoit left The Radicalz in early 2001 and then started to feud against his recent teammates and then with Kurt Angle.

On March 14, 2004, Benoit won his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship title against Triple H at WrestleMania XX. He also won the United States Championship title defeating Orlando Jordon at The Great American Bash in 2004, July 24.

Chris Benoit Death

On June 25, 2007, police discovered the dead bodies of Benoit, his wife, and his son while Benoit’s employer requested officers for a welfare check.

It is found that Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and son Daniel before committing suicide. He was found hanging on his lat pulldown machine.
