World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)
Otunga first signed to World Wrestling Entertainment in November 2008, on a developmental territory to Florida Championship Wrestling. Otunga made his first professional debut match on May 29, 2009, in a six-man tag team match under the ring name Dawson Alexander.
He then made another debut on NXT leaving FCW after few matches. Otunga had his real name on NXT and defeated Darren Young on his debut. On March 30, Otunga won an 8-man over the top rope battle royal.
David teamed up with John Cena for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship against The Miz and Big Show which they were defeated.
The Nexus
Otunga along with some fellow wrestlers from NXT gathered up and formed a team naming The Nexus and began to interfere in most of the matches of WWE. Nexus started with the interference in the main event match between CM Punk and John Cena then attacked them.
Not only the competitors but they didn’t leave the announce team, General Manager Bret Hart, and many other wrestlers of WWE.
Nexus got seven-on-seven elimination tag team match at SummerSlam against team raw which The Nexus lose for their first time.
John Cena teamed with Otunga to win WWE Tag Team Championship from Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes on October 24. They lost the title on the nest night to Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater.
On May 23, Otunga teamed with Michael McGillicutty and became new WWE Tag Team Championship defeating Kane and The Big Show.
