Born and raised in Iran’s Persian Jewish community at the age of 15, David and his younger brother left following the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
Further, they continued their education in Belgium and the UK before arriving in the USA where Samadi finished high school in Roslyn, New York. He also attended Stony Brook University and received his Biochemistry degree.
David received his MD in 1994 from SUNY, Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook, New York, and completed his postgraduate training in urology at the Montefiore Medical Center; and in urology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996 and the Montefiore Medical Center in 2000.

He studied at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for the first time, then entered the faculty of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in 2007; where he became Vice-Chair of the Department of Urology and Minimally Invasive Surgery and Head of Robotics.
Later, in the year 2012, he became New York City’s highest-paid doctor and won $7.6 million. He developed the Adapted Samadi Advanced Robot Treatment for prostate cancer surgery.
The methodology was introduced to replace open surgery using the DaVinci Surgical System with a minimally invasive alternative.
In November 2019, Lenox Hill agreed to pay $12.3 million to settle a Medicare fraud lawsuit brought that Samadi performed several operations concurrently; leaving patients unsupervised by a urologist after leaving one operating room for another; charging for unnecessary tests and inadequately supervised residents.
The complaint was the result of a US Attorney for the Southern District of New York investigation, Geoffrey Berman, who described the practice as “assembly line medicine” in violation of Medicare and hospital regulations.
Patients were shocked to discover that, according to a Boston Globe report, Samadi did not regularly perform their surgical procedures, and was also not in the operating room.
