Matthew became the first person under the age of 18 who received the wrestler’s license in Missouri in October 2000.

Korklan in November 2003 made his first professional debut match in Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South under the ring name Matt Sydal. On January 17, 2004, he won his first championship title of IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship defeating J.C. Bailey.
Matt then won NWA Midwest X Division Championship defeating Justin Kage on July 30 which he lost to Delirious after a year of holding a title.
Ring of Honor
Matthew debuted on Ring on Honor with a victory at Reborn: Stage One on April 23, 2004. Sydal teamed up with Samoa Joe and Jack Evans for the ROH World Tag Team Championship but couldn’t win the title at the finals of the 2006 Survival of the Fittest Tournament.
He again teamed up with Christopher Daniels for the ROH World Tag Team Championship which they won defeating The Kings of Wrestling. They defended the title against CIMA and Shingo.

World Wrestling Entertainment
Korklan signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling. He had his first debut match on OVW defeating Jamin Olivencia on October 10, 2007.
He then defeated Mike Kruel to become new OVW Heavyweight Championship. After losing the title to Jay Bradley, Sydal joined Florida Championship Wrestling and debuted on March 22, 2008, with a win against TJ Wilson.
Sydal main roster debut began on June 3, 2008, for the ECW brand where he lost his first match against Shelton Benjamin by countout. There he got his new ring name “Evan Bourne”.
Evan Bourne won his first title of WWE Tag Team Championship with Kofi Kingston defeating David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty.
