An Americal professional wrestler and former martial artist Matt Riddle is currently performing in the developmental territory NXT of WWE. He was in a team of The Chozen Brothers with Jeff Cobb, and together they have won Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) World Tag Team Championships. Matt has also received other glorifying titles like Evolve Championship, WWN Championship, and Progress Atlas Championship throughout his wrestling career.

Early Life and Childhood

Born on January 4, 1986, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Matt later moved to Saratoga Springs, New York, where he attended Saratoga Springs High School. After his graduation in 2004, he joined East Stroudsburg University, where he was a member of the wrestling team for two years. He lost his wrestling scholarship when his coach got fired, which made him move to MMA. Riddle’s wrestling experience mostly comes from his high school wrestling.

While being at Saratoga High School, Matt used to take part in various wrestling matches and was known as National Wrestling Champion. During his senior year, he won New York State Wrestling Championship. He later became 1-0 in amateur MMA.  Before joining WWE, Riddle worked as a roofer and trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the evenings. Since Matt was broke and struggling to meet his ends, he could not afford real training at the gym. He would train vigorously in the comfort of his apartment. Riddle read BJ Penn’s Book, Mixed Martial Arts: The Book of Knowledge, to enhance his martial art skills.

Matt Riddle stepped into the world of professional wrestling with the ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ He defeated Dann Simmler, an understudy of Matt Serra, to get into the TUFF house. Riddle knocked out Simmler, leaving him unconscious, making history in The Ultimate Fighter as the biggest knockout. The victory led him to become a part of team Rampage. During the show’s taping, He got nicknamed as Chipper after Rampage found him always smiling.

He won various matches against Dante Rivera, Steve Bruno, Dan Cramer, and many others. After signing with Bellator, he stopped playing for promotion. Riddle played his last match for Titan FC before embarking on the journey of pro wrestling.

Before heading to WWE, Matt had already sharpened his impressive wrestling skills. He had won Progress Atlas Championship two times already. He was a former PWG Tag Team Champion and Evolved Champion. Outside the world of WWE, he had a history of defeating tough contenders like Shibata and Zack Sabre Jr. All these significant accomplishments have made him an arsenal of surprises.

After three years of wrestling on the independent circuit, he signed a developmental contract in 2018. Equipped with a dangerous cache of maneuvers, the rangy striker has shown incredible versatility and build a reputation of being a top striker and submission artist. Since his starting days, he has made headlines with series of show-stealing battles in WWE, capturing numerous championships across the continents.

He keeps his own life under the shadow and has not mentioned anything about his family, siblings, or love interest. However, he married his love interest Lisa who happens to be a fellow wrestler and gymnast.  He is the loving father of two twin daughters and a son.
