Born on June 29, 1998, Michael Lamar Porter Jr. is mostly known by his initials MPJ. He is an American pro basketball player who currently plays for the NBA team the Denver Nuggets.

Initially, he played college basketball which attracted scouts of the NBA for the Missouri Tigers. In the class of 2017, Porter was ranked as one of the top prospects. Similarly, in the 2018 NBA draft, he was the 14th overall selection of the Nuggets. 

In truth, he lost a possible first-overall pick to the 14th pick with the Nuggets due to his health issues, which forced him to be benched for that whole season. 

On October 31, 2019, Porter made his much-awaited debut in NBA, coming off the bench with fifteen points, impressive four rebounds and an assist in the competitive match against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Additionally, Nuggets have agreed to a 5-year, $172 million rookie extension that has the probability of becoming $207 million if the player is selected to an “All-NBA Team.”

Porter generally plays the small forward position in the team. His career has been hit by multiple back surgeries preventing him from playing many important matches. 

Along with his playing skill, he is known for his jolly and friendly personality on and off the arena, making him an instant fan favorite.

As mentioned previously, Porter has been a victim of multiple back injuries. Similarly, he had to sit out most of the 2021-2022 season because of his third back surgery as well. 

However, during his said recovery time, he posted a story donning platinum blonde hair with a sharp and fresh cut asking his followers if he looked good.

Contrary to his expectations, he became the subject of jokes and memes with most of users in Twitter and Facebook making fun of him. 

A Twitter user @1600 (NO STYLIST) posted a tweet making fun of the player’s hair with a meme of other NBA players’ disappointed faces.

Similarly, in a Facebook post by the page, NBA news and videos feature comments from the public like: “That’s just one of the issues with these young players, more concerned about their hair than improving their game. We’ve seen this before.”

Likewise, The Sports Rush also did an article titled, “Michael Porter Jr is trying to channel talent through his hair, not his craft!”: NBA Twitter reacts to $30 Million Nuggets’ forward’s new hair-do.

So, it is safe to say the player’s hair was not well received by the fans as it did not suit him very well. It even led to questions about his integrity as a player.

However, his present hairstyle which is a simple fade is loved by all his fans. This new and simple haircut suits him very well. 

After that one instance, he seemed to learn the lesson about experimenting with hair and has kept the same simple fade since.

Porter Jr. comes from a family that has a strong passion for basketball. His parents, Lisa and Michael Porter Sr, influenced not only his but all eight children’s interest and skill in basketball.

According to Sportskeeda, his mother Lisa used her experience as a pro basketball player in Iowa to play professional basketball in France. In Hawk Eye’s history, she developed to be an extraordinary high school coach.

Furthermore, his father played college basketball at the University of Iowa. The University of Washington hired Michael Porter Sr. to be an assistant coach to the former NBA player Brandon Roy, who was the head coach.

Porter attended Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School in Columbia, Missouri before transferring to Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. He finished his senior year from Nathan because of his father’s job.

Moreover, the talented basketball player is a Christian that grew up as a vegetarian. One interesting fact about him is that, in 2018, he changed his diet to raw vegan and as of 2020, Porter is no longer vegetarian or vegan.

In addition to younger brother Jontay, a pro basketball player, he has two older sisters named Bri and Cierra and 4 younger siblings.
