They unluckily lose the match at the final round against Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit.
After a couple of weeks, they defeated Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit to win their first Tag Team Championship title but soon lost it to Los Guerreros. Mysterio got the chance to win WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Matt Hardy but lost the match due to the interference of Shannon Moore. Mysterio then defeated Shannon Moore and Crash Holly to win his first Cruiserweight Championship on WWE.
World Heavyweight Champion
Rey Mysterio participated in the 2006 Royal Rumble match, which he won lasting for 62 minutes and holding the Royal Rumble Record. He became number one contender for World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton and Kurt Angle, making it a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 22. Mysterio somehow was successful in pinning Orton and becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion.
