Tommaso appeared on World Wrestling Entertainment on July 14, 2005, on the episode of SmackDown. He was later assigned to WWE’s developmental contract, Ohio Valley Wrestling. There he suffered an injury and was forced to back down from the ring.
Ciampa also went to an Independent circuit in late 2007, where he defeated A.J. Styles and became the new MWF Television Champion. He returned to New England in 2008 to compete in the ECWA Super 8 Tournament.
Luckily after the three consecutive years of competition, he won the tournament in 2011, defeating Adam Cole.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling
Tommaso returned to WWE on September 2, 2015, on the NXT brand to compete on the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament. He and Johnny Gargano became the Tag Team partner for the tournament but were eliminated by Baron Corbin and Rhyno.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano named themselves as DIY and received a title shot for NXT Tag Team Championship. They won the title on November 19 at NXT TakeOver: Toronto defeating The Revivals.
In July, at the episode of NXT, he defeated Aleister Black instead of the interference of Gargano to become the new NXT Champion and the second wrestler to hold the NXT Championship title as well as NXT Tag Team Championship title.
