Barrett was an excellent bare-knuckle boxer in his early twenties. He became a bare-knuckle boxing champion and got to fight on several locations throughout Europe.
He also won a substantial cash prize in the competition, “The Battle of Buda.” After the match, while Barrett was going to the airport, he was stabbed by a stranger with an eight-inch blade to steal his cash.
The scar of the blade remains from his upper back to right tricep of 12-inch and also disfigured his nose during the attack.

Early Career (2004 – 2006)
Wade Barrett thought of becoming a professional wrestler while he was 21. He quickly began to work for his career, so he got trained by Jon Ritchie and AI Snow.
Barrett made his first professional debut match in June 2004 with the ring name of Stu Sanders. Barrett made a surprise entrance in the 30-man battle royal match, which was held by NWA UK Hammerlock Wrestling.
He performed in many promotions like Dropkixx Wrestling, All-Star Wrestling Events, and Real Quality Wrestling. He on Dropkixx IWC Heavyweight Championship title in June 2005 against Danny Beckwith.
Barrett got feuded against Danny Dexter and Nick Aldis in Dropkixx wrestling in 2005.

Ohio Valley Wrestling (2006 – 2008)
Wade Barrett got involved with WWE initially as a member of the security guard in November 2006. He then tried his chance for the tryout with World Wrestling Entertainment after a couple of weeks.
Barrett had the second tryout in WWE in 2007, where he was signed by WWE in October and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling.
There he still had Stu Sanders as a ring name. Standers defeated Ace Steel in OVW dark match. There he got teamed up with Paul Burchill with whom he faced with Major Brothers.
They together defeated Colt Cabana and Charles Evans on January 2, 2008, in the final tournament of Ohio Valley Wrestling.
Sanders and Burchill won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship title, which they held for nearly two months. Later they lose the title to Los Locos in a four-way match.
Florida Championship Wrestling (2008 – 2010)
Sanders went to Florida Championship wrestling after the WWE ended a relationship with OVW as a developmental territory.
There he met Drew McIntyre and made the team “The Empire.” The Empire then defeated The Puerto Rica Nightmares, who were Eddie Colon and Eric Perez.
Sanders and McIntyre held the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship after defeating The Puerto Rica Nightmares and then lose the title back to them on July 17.
The Empire got separated, and since then, Barrett started to wrestle with his real name. He again changed his real name to Lawrence Knight on October 9 during FCW television taping.
Lawrence got into an incident where he tore his Latissimus dorsi muscle, which required surgery. Due to his injury, he became a commentator in FCW.
The Nexus and The Corre (2010 – 2011)
Wade Barrett appeared on NXT’s first season, along with Chris Jericho, on the inaugural episode on February 23. He made his ring debut of NXT winning against Daniel Bryan.
Barrett was so good at talking that he won “talk the talk” challenge on April 13, and was awarded a custom theme for his entrance.
Wade Barrett won a WWE contract after winning the overall competition and defeating David Otunga and Gabriel in the final season.
On June 7, 2010, Barrett and his NXT rookies began to interfering with WWE’s main event match between John Cena and CM Punk. They choose neither of side and instead attack both the wrestlers.
They attack not only the wrestlers but also attack the Edge Society; the announce team, the timekeeper, and the ring announcer.
Later the Raww General Manager Bret Hart fired Barrett and removed his team from the building. They again appeared and requested for a Fatal 4-Way match to decide their stay on WWE.

Nexus got their first match in WWE against John Cena in a 6-on-1 handicap match where Cena lost after getting a 450-degree splash by Gabriel.
Intercontinental Champion (2012 – 2013)
Wade Barrett returned WWE with an entirely different look on September 7. He was defeating Yoshi Tatsu in his first match of return and went defeating multiple wrestlers.
He lost his winning streak against Sheamus for the non-title match to World Heavyweight Championship. The game was disqualified after Big Show came during the game to interfere.
At Survivor Series, Barrett and his team won against the side of Mick Foley, where he successfully eliminated Kofi Kingston, who was the Intercontinental Champion during that time.
Barrett got a chance to win the Intercontinental Championship title after defeating Kofi Kingston in a non-title match. He then became the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship but was unsuccessful in his first attempt.
But a couple of weeks, Wade Barrett defeated Kingston to win his second-time Intercontinental Championship title.
He defended the title against Kingston in a rematch, which was held four days after his championship reign.
Barrett lost his Intercontinental Championship title during the pre-show of WrestleMania 29 to The Miz. But he regains the title on his rematch against The Miz.
He then finally lost his title to Curtis Axel At Payback in a triple threat match, including The Miz. During the rematch to the title, he again was defeated by Curtis Axel.
