The 38-year-old from San Jose, California, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in October 2021 and was recently ordered to pay restitution to those she defrauded.

Riley’s elaborate scheme began in 2012, when she launched an online campaign, portraying herself as a cancer patient in need of financial assistance.

Through social media and her blog, she successfully garnered over $100,000 in donations from well-intentioned individuals who believed they were supporting her medical treatment.

However, her deceit came to light when the Internal Revenue Service discovered inconsistencies in her claims in 2019.

The subsequent investigation led to her arrest and charges of wire fraud. After admitting her guilt, Riley faced her day in court and has now been sentenced to serve five years behind bars.

According to Nypost, in addition to her prison term, Riley has also been ordered to repay the funds she fraudulently obtained, ensuring that her victims are compensated. Following her release, she will be under supervision for three years, further holding her accountable for her actions.

What Happened To Amanda Riley?  Cancer Scandal

Following her guilty plea to wire fraud, Amanda Riley was sentenced to five years in federal prison and three years of supervised release.

As of May 3, 2022, she had been handed over to serve her sentence at The Federal prison, probably mostly in Texas.

Since her cancer was all an elaborate scheme to earn money for her own selfish reasons, she is healthy and fine physically.

According to The Cinemaholic, Amanda’s attorney, Jodi Linker, had emphasized her client’s remorse and recognition of the seriousness of her offense in a letter to the judge, highlighting that she was determined to make restitution and earn forgiveness from those she had harmed.

Linker also cited Amanda’s history of severe mental health issues arising from her childhood due to the ongoing conflicts between her parents and their strict disciplinary methods towards their children.

The advocate has argued for a more lenient sentence than the 20 years she could have faced. So, we can guess that while she has no cancer or bodily sickness, her mental health, even at the present time, is bad.

Currently incarcerated, Amanda is expected to remain at The Federal Prison until her release date on September 5, 2026. It has been speculated that Amanda’s mental health needs are being addressed during her incarceration.
