On January 16, 2009, Linda Bonner was horrified to find her husband, Franklin, strapped to a chair in their Chattanooga, Tennessee, home with duct tape covering his lips and nose.
The initial investigation yielded no indictments. However, Angel Bumpass, a little eighth-grader at the time, emerged as a surprising suspect nearly a decade later when her fingerprints matched those on the duct tape.
However, Angel denied any involvement and claimed she had never met Franklin. Her life had taken a positive turn as she pursued higher education and motherhood.
Despite the lack of concrete evidence connecting her to the crime, Angel was arrested in 2018 and charged with felony murder and aggravated robbery out of suspicion due to fingerprints.
The trial in 2019 ended with a guilty verdict for Angel, who was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. However, there were many things not taken into consideration.
Angel Bumpass appealed her conviction with the help of her defense lawyer, William Massey, and won the case. Her charges were acquitted, and she became a free person on August 8, 2023.
