Why Did Rodney Reed Receive A Death Sentence? Murder Of Stacey Stites Explained

Stacey Stites was a 19-year-old from Giddings, Texas, who was found dead on April 23, 1996.

Stacey’s body was uncovered in bushes near Bastrop High School after a call to the police at 3:11 PM.

The pickup truck she regularly drove to work, belonging to her fiancé, was found parked nearby.

Authorities specified she was beaten, sodomized, raped, and strangled with her belt between 3:00 and 5:00 AM.

Her body, wearing a black bra and jeans, was partially burned.

Part of the belt used to kill her was found near her body, and the other part near the truck and her shirt was found nearby.

Stites was buried in Corpus Christi on April 26, 1996. Tragically, her brother never recovered from her death and took his own life in 1997.
