Mark William Calaway was born in The Star State of Texas. This famous Texan was born in the populous city of Houston. He was born to parents Frank Compton and Betty Catherine Truby.

Career

Early Career

Even the greats have to start somewhere. Mark initially began training with Buzz Sawyer all the way back in 1986. He made his debut in July of 1987 for World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW).

Although above are the details in the record books, there have been two mysteries about Calaway’s beginnings. First is that he actually made his debut in 1984.

In addition, another is that he was trained by a WCCW colleague named Don Jardine. Actually he wasn’t trained by Jardine. Calaway was a huge admirer of Jardine and even copied his ‘top rope walk’ move.

He even joined the Continental Wrestling Association in 1988. During his time here, he wrestled under several gimmicks. He even won his first title during this period by defeating Jerry Lawler.

Lawler was dethroned as the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion by Calaway. He even conquered the WCWA Texas Heavyweight Championship while performing as The Punisher.

World Championship Wrestling (WCW)

Calaway joined WCW in 1989 and performed under the ring name “Mean Mark” Callous. He joined and performed a heel’s role when he joined WCW.

At one point, he was even drafted to the tag team called The Skyscrapers. He had actually joined the group to replace the injured Sid Vicious. After being a singles wrestler, he even took the guidance of Paul Heyman and won.

Soon, Calaway began questioning his future in WCW. Callous had some altercations with booker Ole Anderson. In his future matches, Heyman had sent feelers out WWF to check out Calaway.

Early Days

Calaway signed with WWE in 1990 and made his debut in November of that year. He initially wrestled under the ring name Kane the Undertaker. Soon, he shortened his name to The Undertaker.

Undertaker even changed his manager. He switched from Brother Love to Paul Bearer. Paul’s ghostly character was always carrying the urn, which was The Deadman’s source of power.

The reaper went on to become the WWF Champion by defeating Hulk Hogan in Survivor Series. He took aid from the clever Ric Flair to accomplish this feat.

Calaway even became the youngest WWF champion by doing so. In 1992, his persona began to change and even became a fan favorite for the first time. He saved Miss Elizabeth from a steel chair.
