The news was shared by him on his Twitter, and met by several sad replies by his followers who loved listening to his podcasts.

On February 9, Sykes declared that it would be his final day producing his “Morning Shots” newsletter and podcast for The Bulwark, which he helped establish in 2019.

While exiting The Bulwark, Sykes will maintain his role as a contributor for MSNBC, where he offers opinion pieces analyzing the state of the Republican Party.

In a Thursday newsletter, Sykes shared his passion for creating content but expressed worries about the widespread presence of “idiocracy” in today’s discussions.

He indicated a desire to reduce his workload and adopt a more measured pace in his future endeavors.

Despite departing The Bulwark, Sykes assured his audience that he would continue to write and provide commentary, albeit with a less intense focus.

Sykes also expressed eagerness to shift his attention away from constant coverage of Trump, emphasizing his intention to engage with other subjects.

Notably, Sykes has been a prominent figure in Wisconsin conservatism and an advocate of the “Never Trump” movement.

With Trump possibly becoming the GOP nominee in 2024, Sykes emphasized the need for rational, principled voices on the center-right to combat extremism and demagoguery.
