Why Was Yennier Cano Banned From Baseball?

Today, Yennier has been taking strides in baseball, making a name for himself. But as he performs well in matches, a part of the history of his life comes into the limelight again and again.

The question “Why was Yennier Cano banned?” pops up once in a few months, making people curious about the background of the player.

Moreover, the topic sometimes raises questions over Cano’s integrity as a player as well, as people often immediately speculate the ban will be for some illegal or unprofessional act by him.

But that speculation is far from the truth.

Yes, he was actually banned from playing baseball. In 2017, Yennier Cano faced a significant setback in his baseball career when he was banned from playing or practicing the sport.

Despite proving himself to be the best pitcher in his province, Cano’s aspirations were temporarily put on hold.

He had previously showcased his exceptional skills and led his team, Los Tigres, to consecutive championships in 2015 and 2016, bringing pride to his city of Ciego de vila.

However, circumstances took a difficult turn for Cano. Following the loss of his mother, he contemplated leaving their homeland to pursue greater opportunities in baseball.

Cano sought permission from the Cuban government to leave the country, but instead of approval, he was met with a sanction.

For an entire year, the talented player was barred from stepping onto any baseball field in Cuba. Despite the ban, Cano was determined to stay in shape and maintain his fitness and skills on the pitch.

However, every time he attempted to practice in Ciego de Vila or its surroundings, Cuban officials intervened and ordered him to cease his activities, according to the Baltimore Banner.

Undeterred by the restrictions, the Baltimore Orioles pitcher resorted to unconventional methods to continue sharpening his skills. He would grab his glove and practice wherever he could, whether it be on the streets or in a backyard.

With his determination, he has now been able to play professional and commercial baseball in MLB, and he surely is not letting this chance go in vain.

Yennier Cano 2023 Update: What Is The Pitcher Doing Currently?

After facing a ban from playing baseball in Cuba, Yennier embarked on a journey to pursue his Major League Baseball dream. He and his wife obtained permission to move and train in Argentina, where they resided for about six months before relocating to the Dominican Republic.

This relocation marked a turning point in Cano’s career.

His initial outing as an Oriole proved challenging, as he encountered difficulties retiring Boston Red Sox hitters.

Overwhelmed and concerned about his career and his pregnant wife Arianny Cano, he experienced uncertainty.

Nevertheless, he displayed resilience and determination. After striking out 11 of his final 18 batters in Triple-A Norfolk, Cano earned a recall to the majors in October, ending the season with two appearances and allowing only two runs.

The Orioles summoned Cano again in April of the same season, and he immediately demonstrated his prowess by retiring all five batters he faced in Chicago.

This marked the beginning of an exceptional run, as he tied a franchise record by retiring 24 consecutive batters to start the season.

Throughout April, he did not concede a hit and remained scoreless until his 18th appearance, when Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays drove in a run with a groundout.

Cano exhibited remarkable control, not issuing a single walk in his encounters with 84 batters. His stellar performance continued with two scoreless innings at Yankee Stadium.

Cano attributed part of his success to the newfound “dad strength” he acquired since the birth of his son Christian Cano, as per the Athletic.

This blessing in his personal life seemingly translated into a boost on the mound as opposing hitters struggled to make contact against him.

Yennier Cano’s journey, from facing a ban to relocating to pursuing his baseball career, has reshaped his trajectory.

With his remarkable performance in the MLB and the support of his growing family, he has overcome challenges and emerged as a force to be reckoned with on the field.

This led to the headlines about him changing from “Yennier Cano banned” to “Yannier Cano: The Star In Making.” We wish for Cano to have the best career as well.
