In the late 1950s, the paths of British-American artist Nancy and South Africa-born Canadian steel executive Derek Haysom crossed, marking the beginning of a love story that would endure for decades.

Despite a significant 19-year age gap, they shared common ground as divorced parents who valued pedigree, social standing, and family values.

This shared vision led to their joyful union in 1960, and it was in this love-filled environment that Elizabeth, their only biological child, was born in April 1964.

Elizabeth Haysom parents (eltern) were not only devoted to each other but also to their children. Prior to their marriage, Nancy had two sons, Howard and Richard, from her previous marriage.

Both sons later adopted the Haysom surname. On the other hand, Derek brought three children from his previous marriage into the family: Varian, Julian, and Fiona.

Despite the generational gap, Elizabeth enjoyed a close relationship with her maternal half-brothers, with only a decade or so separating her from them.

Their love and support would prove vital when, tragically, the Haysom couple lost their lives on March 30, 1985. However, her siblings don’t have the knowledge of how their parents were killed.

Derek and Nancy Haysom’s story was not just about a couple but a family of distinction, where love, values, and strong bonds prevailed for 25 years before their tragic departure.

Elizabeth Haysom Was Given A 90-Year Prison Sentence For The Murder Of Her Parents

Born on April 15, 1964, Elizabeth Haysom’s life took a dark turn when she was convicted of playing a role in the brutal murder of her own parents, Derek and Nancy Haysom.

Elizabeth Haysom parents (eltern), a well-to-do couple, were discovered on April 3, 1985, in their Lynchburg, Virginia home, their bodies horrifically mutilated, nearly decapitated.

This heinous crime sent shockwaves through the community, and law enforcement swiftly identified Elizabeth and her boyfriend at the time, Jens Soering, as persons of interest in the case.

However, by the time authorities made this discovery, the couple had already left for Washington, D.C., leaving the gruesome crime scene behind.

The investigation into the Haysom murders continued, and the trail led to Elizabeth and Jens in London, England, where they had assumed false identities.

On April 30, 1986, they were arrested. Elizabeth Haysom eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of accessory to murder before the fact, receiving a 90-year prison sentence for her involvement.

Jens Soering, despite maintaining his innocence, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder on June 21, 1990, earning two consecutive life terms behind bars.

For over three decades, Elizabeth Haysom served her sentence at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, while Jens Soering did his time at Buckingham Correctional Center.

Where Are Elizabeth And Her Ex-Boyfriend Now?

The sensational case of Elizabeth Haysom and her former boyfriend, Jens Soering, took a significant turn in 2019 on November 25.

The Virginia Parole Board, in conjunction with Governor Ralph Northam, made a remarkable announcement – Soering and Haysom would be released from prison but not pardoned for their crimes.

For Jens Soering, his release came with strict conditions. He was deported to his home country of Germany and received a ban preventing his return to the United States.

This deportation effectively ended his decades-long stay in American prisons. Elizabeth Haysom’s terms paralleled Soering’s.

She was also deported, in her case, to Canada, her home country. Likewise, these two individuals, who were once at the center of a notorious murder case, are not allowed to contact one another.

This prohibition extends even to their family members. As of December 17, 2019, Jens Soering remains a free man in Germany, marking the start of a new chapter in his life.

Elizabeth Haysom, on the other hand, was deported to Canada on January 22, 2020, where she also enjoys her newfound freedom.

The story of Elizabeth Haysom and Jens Soering has seen many twists and turns, and their release in 2019 was a major development in a case that has captured the public’s attention for decades.

Their current lives remain separate, and their future paths are unknown as they each embark on the journey of post-prison life in their respective home countries.
