Robert William Howard Jr. was born on January 29, 1963, in Glendale, California, United States. He was raised by his mother, along with his older brother. Robert, after completing his graduation from Grants Pass High School, worked in a beer warehouse.

To achieve his dream career, he soon began his training under the guidance of Bob Sweetan and Rip Tyler. He had his first debut match in 1987 in the World Wrestling Organization promotion, where he won WWO Tag Team Championship with his partner Ron Starr.

Holly began to appear on television after signing with World Championship Wrestling in 1990. He lost his first match against the United States Heavyweight Championship Lex Luger.

Holly then faced Ric Flair in a singles match on August 13, with a losing effort on World Championship Wrestling. Harcore Holly soon left WCW promotion after several months of absence and went to World Wrestling Federation.

Robert made his debut in WWF/E in 1991, which doesn’t last long, which made him leave sooner in the same year for Smoky Mountain Wrestling. He then returned to back to WWF/E on January 11, 1994.

He teamed up with 1-2-3 Kid at the Royal Rumble and became the new WWF Tag Team Champions defeating Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka. Sadly they were only able to hold the title for a single day and lost on next day to The Smoking Gunns.

Holly then teamed up with Bart Gunn and started to call themselves The New Midnight Express in February 1998. The New Midnight Express became the new NWA World Tag Team Champions defeating The Headbangers on March 30, 1998.

Bob Holly was renamed as Hardcore Holly after becoming the new WWF Hardcore Championship in 1999. He won the WWF Hardcore Championship title six times that made him the successful Hardcore champion.
