It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of the legendary surfer Mikala Jones, who tragically lost his life in a surfing accident in the Mentawais.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 9th, while Mikala was staying at the Awera Resort in North Sipora, accompanied by his wife, Emma Jones, and three children.
At approximately 9:15 am, Mikala suffered a severe accident, resulting in a deep wound to the inside of his left groin, measuring approximately 10 centimeters.
Preliminary reports suggest that the femoral artery was severed, possibly due to contact with a surfboard fin. The Awera Resort management acted swiftly and immediately contacted the Mentawai Hospital for assistance.
Hospital staff were dispatched to Tuapejat Pier, where Mikala had been brought by boat. Despite their efforts, he was sadly pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
Mikala’s passing leaves a void not only in the surfing community but also in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him personally.
