Mike Mokoena, widely known as “Bra Mike,” was born in 1952 in Frankfort, Free State, on a farm called Blyskap.

However, Mike was raised by his caring grandparents, Sefofane Stephen and Nomthandazo Mokoena, who played a significant role in shaping his life.

Growing up, Mike attended Vantenkie Primary Farm School but did not pursue further studies beyond Standard 2 (now Grade 4).

During his childhood, he worked on various farms and managed to purchase a bicycle, which he utilised for selling milk.

At the age of 16, Mike’s family relocated to Makwane village in QwaQwa. Later, he found employment as a forklift driver in Sasolburg.

Mike was not only a successful businessman but also a dedicated philanthropist. He embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by starting a driving school and eventually expanding his business portfolio.

He ventured into diverse industries, such as opening a coalyard and a dry cleaner in Botshabelo, establishing a funeral parlour, a catering company, and a construction company called TTC.

Furthermore, Mike’s passion for sports led him to form a football club named Makwane Computer Stars, which later evolved into Free State Stars in 1977.

Additionally, his involvement in the National Soccer League as a founding member and his service on the Premier Soccer League board of governors and executive committee showcase his dedication to the sport.

As a philanthropist, he had helped many communities build churches and schools as well.

Unfortunately, he died in June 2020 after fighting cancer for many years.

Thapelo Mokoena’s mother, Nomsa Joyce, got married to her husband Mike on December 14, 1974, and together they had five children, according to Sowetan live.

Following their marriage, Joyce pursued a career as a teacher at Emdeni Primary School. However, additional information about her is not available.

On the other hand, according to Okmzansi, he calls his mother Lindokuhle Mokoena and refers to her as princess, as given in her article.

He hails her for giving birth and raising five very strong children with high moral values.
