Dagny Benedict Oklahoma Autopsy Reports

The city of Owasso, located six miles north of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is shaken by the tragic death of 16-year-old non-binary sophomore Nex (Dagny) Benedict.

A physical altercation in a school restroom led to Dagny’s hospitalization and subsequent death, sparking conflict and accusations within the community.

The Owasso Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to local reports, on Feb. 7, police were called to Bailey Medical Center by the parent of the Owasso High School student who had allegedly been involved in a physical altercation earlier that day.

The school had no prior notification or staff awareness of the fight until after the student had been taken to the hospital.

The Owasso Reporter details that no initial police report of the fight was made before admission to the hospital, though a school resource officer collected information at that time.

On Thursday evening, police learned that the student was rushed back to the hospital and pronounced dead from a medical episode.

A source familiar with the events leading to Dagny’s death, claiming to be the mother of the victim’s best friend, reported complications from head trauma as a potential cause.

According to her, three older girls had assaulted Dagny and her daughter in the school bathroom, with one of the girls repeatedly beating Dagny’s head against the floor.

The assault was interrupted by a teacher, but staff allegedly failed to call an ambulance, and the victim’s grandmother later brought her to the hospital.

Despite being released that evening, Dagny was returned the next day and succumbed to the injuries. The Owasso Public Schools district and Owasso Police Department declined to comment, citing an active police investigation.

Investigators are awaiting the coroner-medical examiner’s report to determine if the fight directly caused the teen’s death or if a separate medical issue played a role.

The tragic incident raises concerns about school safety and the need for a thorough examination of the events leading to Dagny Benedict’s untimely death.

Owasso School Murder Case Details Explored

The tragic death of 16-year-old non-binary sophomore Nex (Dagny) Benedict in Owasso, Oklahoma, has stirred controversy, with LGBTQ+ advocates expressing anger over the misgendering in local media and the school district’s handling of anti-LGBTQ+ bullying.

Owasso Public Schools released a statement acknowledging the death of an Owasso High School student, with details such as the student’s name and cause of death pending an active police investigation.

Additional counselors were made available at the school to support students and staff. Dagny Benedict’s burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville followed a service at Mowery Funeral Service Chapel on Feb. 15.

However, the circumstances surrounding Dagny’s death have raised concerns about the school district’s ability to address anti-LGBTQ+ bullying.

Particularly given its previous association with far-right anti-LGBTQ+ extremist Chaya Raichik, appointed to an Oklahoma committee reviewing school library content by State Superintendent Ryan Walters.

In 2022, Raichik targeted an Owasso 8th-grade teacher, Tyler Wrynn, who spoke out in support of LGBTQ+ students lacking acceptance from their parents. Wrynn faced baseless allegations of being a ‘groomer’ and a predator on social media.

LGBTQ+ advocacy groups argue that Raichik’s targeting contributes to a climate of violence against LGBTQ+ youth.

Lance Preston, CEO of the Rainbow Youth Project in Indianapolis, expressed frustration and anger over Dagny’s death and other instances of anti-LGBTQ+ violence.

The case highlights broader issues concerning school safety, bullying, and the urgent need to address discrimination against LGBTQ+ students.

As investigations unfold, advocates emphasize the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive environment to prevent further tragedies and protect vulnerable youth.
