He also mentioned that “you want your locker room to be pretty diverse, and you want the world to look like that. What I will say, though, is I do see color because I believe if you don’t see color, you can’t see racism.”

Some Early Life Details Of Mayo

Mayo was born in Virginia’s Hampton. As a linebacker and running back at Hampton’s Kecoughtan High School, he was awarded three football letters.

Mayo finished his senior year with 110 tackles, 18 of which were for loss, and two interceptions.

In his final season, he played seven games as a running back as well and gained 1,245 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns, and five two-point conversions.

He finished as a junior with 68 tackles, 22 of which were for loss, four interceptions, and three sacks. He was named to the first team for the District, Area, and Region.

Rivals.com rated Mayo as a four-star recruit and had him ranked twelfth in the country among outside linebackers.

Among North Carolina State, Purdue, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, he picked Tennessee.

Deron Mayo, Jerod’s younger brother, played linebacker for the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders.
