Sara Rosecrans Rafting Accident Linked To Death Cause
Adventurous Sara tragically lost her life in an accident while leading an eight-person rafting crew on a section of the Upper Animas River between Silverton and Rockwood.
The incident occurred in a remote location, necessitating a prompt response from Silverton Medical Rescue and assistance from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad due to it’s challenging access.
Despite the immediate CPR efforts by the rafting crew, Sara Rosecrans could not be revived. Her body was transported to the Rockwood Train Station with the help of the rescue team and other individuals involved in the incident.
Currently, an autopsy is underway in collaboration with the La Plata County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of her passing.
According to The Current Pulse, San Juan County Coroner Keri Metzler has clarified that there is no ongoing investigation into the Sara Rosecrans rafting accident and no suspicion of foul play in her untimely death. The focus remains on gathering information and insights from the ongoing autopsy.

Sara Rosecrans Obituary: Family Mourns The Loss
A vibrant and adventurous soul passed away tragically at the age of 24. However, information related to an exact birth date is not available to the public.
Born with a deep love for the outdoors, she dedicated her life to exploring and sharing her passion for nature with others. While not much information is available regarding her family, they are undoubtedly mourning the loss of their beloved daughter and sister during this difficult time.
In 2020, Sara graduated from Western Colorado University with an outdoor recreation and education degree. And then she went on to undertake an internship at the Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte, Colorado.
Sara joined the Adaptive Sports Association in Durango in 2022 to be a commercial raft guide in Colorado and Utah, a wilderness EMT, a PSIA Level 1 Alpine Ski Instructor, and a Leave No Trace Master Educator, according to the Adaptive Sports Association’s official website.
When she wasn’t guiding rafts down desert rivers or hitting the slopes in the San Juan Mountains, Sara was always spending time with nature.
These accomplishments showcased her expertise and dedication to safety and responsible outdoor practices. As unfortunate as her death was, we can only hope she found peace as she died doing what she loved.
As the outdoor community, friends, colleagues, family, and those whose lives she touched are left with immense loss, her knack for adventure and kind spirit will forever be remembered.
